The 2026 rules
- 15.3% on 92.35% of your net profit: 12.4% Social Security, up to $184,500 of combined earnings, and 2.9% Medicare with no cap.
- An extra 0.9% Medicare above $200,000 ($250,000 married filing jointly), counting wages.
- No self-employment tax if your net earnings are under $400.
- Half of it is deductible when you figure your income tax.
